Quick and Easy DIY Bench

Updated: Feb 4, 2020

This project was by far one of the quickest projects we've done, completed in just a couple hours. I've been on the lookout for a piece of furniture for this empty spot in our kitchen but just hadn't found anything I totally loved and was within the budget. Then I saw Sierra over at @withlovesierra on instagram DIYed her own and I couldn't resist!

Supplies

First, cut down the 1 x 12's to desired length (ours was 50 inches). Then we stacked the two pieces on top of each other to get the thickness the bench top needed to support the weight sitting on top.

Then, nail the two pieces together from the underside of the bench using a nail gun with nails 1 1/4 in long.

Next, cut the trim into two pieces that measure the width of the bench (these are for the sides) Then cut a piece for the front of the bench to desired length. Keep in mind that the front trim needs to be long enough to account for the additional trim on sides of bench. Attach trim using nail gun.

Now, attach hair pin legs to underside of bench top 1/2 in - 1 in away from the outer edges using hardware that comes in the packaging.

Finally, for the fun part! I wanted to add some distressing to the bench top to add character and make it look worn. I used a hammer and screwdriver the scratch and bang up the top creating nicks and scrapes that the stain will soak into adding deeper color. Grab some gloves and rag and start staining!

I'm so happy with how it turned out! Adds some more wood and warmth to a very white and gray kitchen. Now it's your turn, Happy DIYing!!
